Doug Shearer - Head Equipment Manager
Doug "Sluggo" Shearer enters his 20th season as Washington's head equipment manager, having joined the Capitals for the 1983-84 campaign. Prior to joining the Capitals he served two seasons as head trainer for the American Hockey League's Hershey Bears, the Capitals' minor-league affiliate at the time.
Shearer also brings international experience with him, including serving Team USA at the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City and the 1997 World Hockey Championships in Finland. In 1999 he was the head equipment manager for the NHL All-Star Game in Tampa.
The Salisbury, N.C., native holds a bachelor of science degree in health and physical education from West Chester State College.
The past president of the Society of Professional Hockey Equipment Managers and a member of the Athletic Equipment Managers Association, Shearer enjoys hunting and fishing in his spare time. |
